about us

In 1948, Faye “Arkie” Sawyer opened Arkie’s Grill in East Austin – a classic diner serving hearty breakfast fare and blue-plate specials. An Austin institution for over 60 years, Arkie’s motto was “Where good food, friends and fair prices meet.”

When we opened our doors as Sawyer & Co. in 2014, we wanted to pay tribute to Arkie’s legacy of community while honoring our southern roots. We hope you'll enjoy our unique blend of soulful New Orleans flavors and Texas hospitality.  Our mission at Sawyer & Co. is simple - we're in the happiness business.

Very truly yours,

The Sawyer & Co. Family

What the people are saying:

Having spent my early 20s in the Southeast, I fell in love with New Orleans, going to Jazz Fest, eating incredible Cajun Food, and enjoying the Southern Hospitality was a nostalgic memory of my earlier years.

I stumbled upon Sawyer & Co. with a friend on a Saturday night without reservations. We were immediately seated at the bar in their comfortable diner style indoor restaurant.

Bartender was very nice, attentive and answered all of our questions. Southern Hospitality was felt, and this extended int our meal.

Food was delicious, their Roux (Cajun Sauce, like a well seasoned gravy) was perfect, and instantly reminded me of my time in New Orleans. Crawfish and Fried Catfish were very satisfying meals, highly recommended dishes.

The Deviled Eggs and Cornbread were great, having grown up in the southeast I miss these so much...

Feeling more at home in Austin every day, thank you to the cooks and staff.
